KISSIMMEE, Fla., January 10, 2010 – Customers of Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) this morning set a new all-time winter system peak demand record for electricity – the third in four days.
The record system peak of 323.2 megawatts (MW) was set at 9:15 a.m. Sunday, edging out the old mark of 321.2 MW set Saturday. The temperature at the time of this morning’s peak was 33 degrees.
One megawatt powers approximately 750 homes.
Founded in 1901, KUA (www.kua.com) is Florida's sixth largest community-owned utility providing electric and telecommunication services to 62,000 customers in five Central Florida counties.
