2005
KUA captured two statewide awards in the 2005 Golden Image Awards, an annual
competition sponsored by the Florida Public Relations Association. The
competition recognizes outstanding public relations programs and encourages and
promotes the development of excellence in internal and external communications.
In the annual report category, KUA received a Golden Image Award for its
48-page annual report -- titled "Beyond Measure. In the poster/calendar
category, KUA received a Golden Image Award for its 2005 calendar of electrical
safety.
KUA was honored with two awards of excellence in APEX 2005, the seventeenth
annual international awards program recognizing excellence in printed and
online publications.
KUA received a Grand Award - one of only 100 given out worldwide - for its new
residential energy guide, "The Case of the Rising Electric Bills" and an award
of excellence for its 2004 annual report titled "Beyond Measure."
KUA took home two awards the 2005 Image Awards, an annual competition sponsored
by the Orlando Area Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association. In the
printed tool category, KUA received an Image Award for its 2004 Osceola
Hurricane Handbook. In the annual report category, KUA received an Award of
Distinction for its 2004 annual report.
KUA received three awards in the 2005 Communicator Awards. The Communicator
Awards is an international awards program that honors excellence in printed
communications. A Crystal Award of Excellence was awarded to KUA for its
28-page energy conservation guide. Awards of Distinction were presented to the
utility for its 2004 hurricane handbook and 2004 annual report.
KUA's 2003 annual report - titled "ON" - received a gold ADDY® award. Sponsored
by the Orlando club of the American Advertising Federation (AAF), the ADDY®
awards are the advertising industry's largest and most representative
competition, recognizing creative excellence and the very best advertising
worldwide. The ADDY® Awards are unique among competitions because it includes
three rigorous levels of judging: local, regional and national/international.
2004
The Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) received the Award of Excellence from the
American Public Power Association (APPA) for its 2003 annual report, titled
"ON." KUA earned the award among electric utilities with gross annual revenues
of $100-$199 million.
In recognition of its creative approach to graphic design, KUA's 2003 annual
report was honored with an award of excellence in the 2004 American Graphic
Design Awards. Sponsored by Graphic Design:usa magazine, the American Graphic
Design Awards honor new, outstanding graphic design, advertising art and
marketing communications. The annual report was produced by KUA's corporate
communications division with assistance from graphic designer Popcorn
Initiative and commercial photographer Ed McDonald, both of Orlando, FL.
Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) was honored with three awards at this year's
Florida Public Relations Association annual awards for the best public
relations programs and tactics in the state:

2004 Calendar of Energy Conservation won a Judges' Award and a Golden Image
Award, FPRA's highest category recognition and

KUA's 2002 annual report received an Award of Distinction
KUA is the only utility in the U.S. to be honored with a Grand Award of
Excellence in APEX 2004, the sixteenth annual international awards program
recognizing excellence in printed and online publications. KUA was also honored
with three Awards of Excellence in the competition.

In recognition of its creative excellence, Kissimmee Utility Authority's 2002
annual report received gold and silver ADDY® awards.
KUA received the Award of Excellence in the Communicator Awards 2003 Video
Competition for the pilot episode of KUA's bi-monthly technology show, "That's
IT." An Honorable Mention award was presented to KUA for its "Plugged In"
community education series on hurricane preparedness. Both shows were produced
by and broadcast on Access Osceola, the local government access channel serving
Osceola County, FL.

KUA earned four awards at the Florida Public Relations Association's 2002 Golden
Image Awards competition including:

An Award of Distinction in the crisis communications category for its
comprehensive response to the September 11 terrorist attacks, including the
expansion of its customer payment policies to assist those impacted
financially, the raising of more than $37,000 to assist customers unable to pay
their utility bills because of unemployment, and the free distribution of
58,000 U.S. flags to local residents to encourage patriotism.

A Judges' Award in the internal communications category for its development and
construction of a brick walkway at the Employee Electric Substation. The
walkway features individual bricks with the names and personal messages of
KUA's 289 employees.

A Golden Image Award in the annual report category for its 2001 annual
report/centennial history titled "Generation for the Generations." The book
features a financial summary of 2001 as well as a nine-chapter narrative on the
utility's 100 years of service to the community.

A Golden Image Award in the poster/calendar category for its 2002 Calendar of
Energy Conservation that featured the artwork of 12 Osceola County elementary
students.

Roy E. Hansel Generating Station mural dedication, its team logo design for the
2001 Florida Lineman's Competition, and its monthly employee newsletter, Power
Line.

KUA's Good Neighbor Energy Fund "United We Stand" bill insert earned an
Honorable Mention from the judges. The bill stuffer raised more than $36,000 to
help KUA customers experiencing financial difficulty pay their KUA utility
bills following the post-September 11 economic slowdown.

and its effective crisis communications response to a 1999 burglary of $250,000
in utility payments.

whistle dedication held last October.

Awards of Distinction were presented to KUA for its 2000 Osceola Hurricane
Guide (a partnership with the Orlando Utilities Commission) and its monthly
employee newsletter, Power Line.

KUA's 2001 Calendar of Electrical Safety and its Cane Island power plant
facility map both earned Honorable Mentions from the judges.
Lineman Awards
2005
KUA crews brought home the nation's second best ranking from the fifth annual
Public Power Lineworkers' Rodeo in Memphis, Tenn. on April 16. In addition,
they scored highest among participating Florida utilities. KUA's team earned a
score of 498 out of 500 possible points and took third place event trophies for
the alley arm insulator replacement and oil circuit recloser change out.
KUA lineworkers brought home high marks and
two trophies from the fifth annual Florida Lineman's Competition on April 2 in
Tallahassee, Fla. KUA's two journeyman teams scored 500 and 494 points
respectively out of 500 possible points. One team earned a second place trophy
in the crossarm change out event. Chris Ketner placed fifth overall in the
apprentice competition with a perfect score of 500 points.
2003
The third annual Florida Lineman's Rodeo:

Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) crews brought home four trophies and the
second fastest competition time.

KUA's two teams placed 6th and 21st in the state and earned three event
trophies, including first place for poletop insulator changeout.
-
Jamie Boswell earned a third place trophy in the streetlight changeout event.
2002
19th Annual International Lineman's Rodeo:
-
In the municipal apprentice competition, Scott Grieves placed 15th in the
world, Logan Murphy placed 19th, and Jamie Boswell placed 37th.
-
Kissimmee Utility Authority's three-person team scored 394 points out of a
possible 400 to place 8th best in the world in the municipal competition.
Second Annual Florida Lineman's Rodeo:
-
KUA's three teams placed 8th, 15th and 18th in the state and earned three event
trophies, including second place for the pole climb.
-
Jamie Boswell earned the title of the state's top apprentice lineman and earned
two trophies and a $500 check.
2001
KUA crews won a first place trophy from the first annual Florida Lineman's Rodeo
in the mystery event which involved overhead line construction.
Budgeting Awards
2004
KUA has earned certification from the Association of Public Treasurers of the
United States & Canada (APT) for its written investment policy. The
Investment Policy Certification recognizes KUA's successful development of a
comprehensive written investment policy that meets criteria set forth by the
Association.
2003
For the 17th consecutive year, KUA was awarded the Distinguished Budget
Presentation Award by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United
States and Canada (GFOA) for its 2003 budget.
2002
KUA's 2001 annual report, titled "Generation for the Generations," earned the
Award of Excellence, the top award in a national annual report contest
conducted by the American Public Power Association (APPA).
2001
KUA was awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial
Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States
and Canada (GFOA) for its 2000 comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR).
Customer/Community Awards
2005
KUA was named a "Top 100 Company for Working Families" by the Orlando Sentinel.
This is the eighth consecutive year the utility has been recognized in the
program. The award is given annually to progressive companies that create an
environment that nurtures employees and supports the family. The Orlando
Sentinel, which compiles and prints the annual list, considers a number of
areas to determine its annual rankings. KUA has been a leader, earning
recognition from the judges for its "offerings of unique programs for employee
families, ongoing employee reward system, wide range of benefits and options,
in-house communications, and other innovative programs."
KUA made the Best Places to Work 2005 list, ranking fifth overall in the large
company category with a score of 85.16. The finalists were selected based on
the results of online confidential surveys completed by employees. The survey
was conducted by the Orlando Business Journal in partnership with Wichita,
Kan.-based QMR Market Research.
The Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA) honored KUA as the recipient
of the association's "Community Restoration Award" for its outstanding efforts
to restore electric service in the wake of the destruction levied by four
powerful hurricanes that struck Florida in August and September of last year.
2004
For the seventh time in as many years, KUA has been named among the region's
top 100 companies for working families.
2002
KUA was presented with the prestigious 2002 Business of the Year Award, an award
is given annually by the Kissimmee/Osceola County Chamber of Commerce.
2001
KUA received the Century Award from the American Public Power Association on
June 27, the eve of its 100th anniversary.
KUA received the Kissimmee/Osceola County Chamber of Commerce downtown
beautification award for the month of June 2001 recognizing the giant
Centennial Mural completed at the Roy E. Hansel power plant in downtown
Kissimmee.
